Jumpingpound Mountain– November 11, 2008

Mountain height:         2240 m
Elevation gain:            approx. 500 m
Roundtrip time:           3:20

Solo hike.

Did this one just for the exercise. The satellite photo depicted overcast and gloomy weather and so it was.

Jumpingpound Mountain definitely gives Hailstone Butte a good run for its money in terms of being one of the easiest ascents in the Canadian Rockies: 417 metres of elevation gain on a gently graded trail that goes all the way to the top in 3.5 km. Even at a slow pace, the ascent took barely an hour (not that I’m complaining!)

The summit view was surprisingly good, cloudy skies and-all! I considered extending the trip to Cox Hill, but settled instead for a quick visit to another hill to the northeast of Jumpingpound. Back at the summit, the descent took a whopping 35 minutes! I could get used to these kind of days.

The very defined line where the clouds ended, provided most of the day's entertainment
