Scrambling with Mark.

This mountain had been on our “do-to” list for some time and it was nice to see Frank, Pete, and Vitto pave the way with an ascent in September of 2006. We basically followed their ascent route. Along the way, the waterfall scenery was fantastic and the high cirque below the objective superb. As Frank points out, there are many options to choose easy, moderate, or difficult routes to the summit. We took a moderate route. Also, as Frank mentions, the summit view is “stupendous”. Doing this ascent on a cloudy day would be ultra-disappointing.

On descent, we hopped over to the highpoint to west for an impressive view of both the north and slopes summits of Noyes and then took an alternate descent route around the highpoint. The variety of rock was outstanding and much of it surprisingly solid (why couldn’t the northwest ridge of Mount Birdwood be made of this stuff?!) A thoroughly enjoyable day and a terrific mountain.
