Scrambling with
Mark.
Having
completed a few “easy” rated scrambles, stepping it up to a “moderate” seemed
appropriate. Mount Baldy fit the bill – mostly an easy scramble with one
moderate, but exposed downclimb. Turned out that not only was this the perfect
level of trip for us, but it was also an amazing trip in every other
aspect.
A good trail
made easy work of the first part of the ascent. Admittedly, I was a little
nervous at the downclimb – it’s a life-changing or life-ending fall if you
slip! Thankfully, as Kane describes, the hands- and footholds are solid. Beyond
the downclimb, the terrain gets even more interesting, and the views open up. The
final push to the summit was easy, but with many options to engage in some hands-on
scrambling. Views from the summit, especially towards Barrier Lake, were
fantastic. We returned the same way.
A totally awesome
trip!

Beautiful Barrier Lake is already featured in the view
