Mount Baldy XIV

July 16, 2013

Mountain height: 2192 m
Elevation gain:    800 m

Solo scramble.

A quick afternoon jaunt up and down one of my favourite routes in the Rockies.

The exhilarating West Ridge route of Baldy's West Peak

Baldy's South Peak (left) and West Peak (right)

Some of the solid rock on the North Peak

The famous downclimb looks innocuous, but if you slip it's a long way down the other side

Another famous scene on Baldy is the rock bench

Pine tree buds

Same as above

And again with Baldy's summit near the right

Hiking around a super cool section of the mountain

Same as above with the North and South summits

More cool rock

Getting over to the South Peak  (just right of centre) from the North requires some tricky terrain

Easy hike/scramble to the top from here

Barrier Lake is the one of the highlights of the view

Summit cairn is steps away

The other Baldy peaks and many others to the south

The northeast end of Barrier Lake

Parting look at the summit
