Mount Bosworth II

August 16, 2011

Mountain height:     2771 m
Elevation gain:       1120 m

Roundtrip time:      5:30

Scrambling with Raff.

Both with some time off work, Raff and I planned to hike into the Skoki area and attempt a number of ascents around the Pipestone Valley and/or Red Deer Lakes. Good weather was predicted for the 4-5 day trip, however we arrived in Lake Louise to completely overcast skies. Extremely disillusioned about this turn in the weather we decided to head south, where better weather was likely. But first, since we had driven all the way to Lake Louise, we decided to pick a quick nearby objective.

While Raff had yet to do an ascent of Mount Bosworth, I had completed the trip in 2003, with Mark. Unusually thick forest fire smoke had completely obliterated any views that day and so a repeat visit seemed reasonable. I was desperately hoping clearer skies would prevail in the late afternoon to thoroughly reveal the excellent summit panorama.

They didn’t. The summit view was certainly better than what I had previously experienced, but still very much lacking in that “WOW!” factor.

A good day of exercise, but not much more. Thankfully the company was excellent even if the views
were not.
