Mount Burstall

September 21, 2002

Mountain height: 2760 m
Elevation gain:    890 m

Scrambling with Mark.

On paper (that is, the pages of Alan Kane’s Scrambles guidebook) Mount Burstall appeared to be a perfect trip – short approach, interesting and challenging hands-on scrambling, and great views. And it was exactly that!

We roped up for the exposed sections, just in case, though they turned out to be easier than expected. The summit view was fantastic, featuring many of the impressive mountains of the British Military Group to the south and equally impressive Mount Birdwood and company to the north.

Care for required for the descent, but once down to the col, an amazing scree run down finely-ground dirt allowed for super fast travel.

An excellent trip!
