Eiffel Peak attempt

October 8, 2001

Solo scramble.

This attempt was doomed from the start. Although I was able to hike up into Larch Valley, a complete breakdown in the weather was cause for me to turn tail and run shortly after gaining the south ridge of the objective. A little snow may have been tolerable, but the bone-chilling wind was not. Even if I had foolishly continued on, there would have been no summit view at all. In this part of Rockies, arriving at the top to a whiteout is simply not an option.

I’ll definitely be back at some point to finish the job!

A few of the mountains of The Valley of Ten Peaks (Fay at the left). The weather took a major turn for the worse shortly after this was taken.

The End
