Headwall Peak

     June 28, 2016

Mountain height:  3030 m
Elevation gain:    1200 m
Ascent time:        3:45

Descent time:      2:10

Solo scramble.

A month after an almost successful ascent of Headwall Peak, I returned to complete the job. With beautiful weather and without any snow, the trip went without a hitch. I made a few changes to my previous attempt, including biking the first part of the approach and taking a different (easier and more scenic) route to the upper valley. That valley was infinitely more stunning under blue skies.

Without snow, the ascent was nothing more than a steep scree slog, with enough improving views to keep me going and highly motivated. The summit ridge was more challenging than expected, but very short and led to a fantastic summit view.

The descent was easy and ended with a wickedly exhilarating bike ride back to the car.

Many thanks to the legendary John Martin and the also legendary David P. Jones for pioneering and documenting, respectively, this awesome route.
