DAY 4 - Climbing - Round 3
Having failed to reach the summit of two 5.8 routes on
the trip so far, attempting another seemed to be a stretch, but we were both so
awe-struck by the scenery of the Fisher Towers area that I don’t think either
of us cared too much if we made the summit of Ancient Art.
The first pitch was great – mostly scrambling with a few
low 5th class climbing moves. The second pitch goes at 5.10 free or
5.8 A0. We chose to aid the pitch and although Evan did so with relative ease,
the process was time-consuming and by the time I reached the belay station, we
were having second thoughts about continuing. Acknowledging that this route may
be a little beyond our level, we decided to play it safe and abandon the
attempt.
After rappelling down, we hiked farther into the towers, taking
in more of the stunning scenery.
Back at the Fisher Towers
Ancient Art - the unusually shaped summit at the left is the Corkscrew
Summit and obviously the most popular summit of the group
