Mount Rae

July 22, 2003

Mountain height: 3218 m
Elevation gain:    1000 m

Solo scramble.

As the highest peak in the Highwood Pass area (3218 m), it’s a good thing the starting elevation for Mount Rae is an impressive 2206 m. The ascent entails a scenic hike into Ptarmigan Cirque, followed by a steep rubble slog up to Rae’s southwest ridge, and finishes in exciting fashion with a challenging scramble to the summit. And that’s exactly how things unfolded.

Unfortunately, the summit view was a little hazy, but remarkable nonetheless – Rae towers over everything in the immediate area.

An excellent scramble!

Heading to the back of the cirque and then up to the left

Luckily you don't have to scramble across that!
