Snow Peak II
July 20, 2003
Mountain height: 2800 m
Elevation gain: 900 m
Hiking (and a little mountaineering) with
Mark.
6
months after
attempting Snow Peak, we were back to do try it in a season of the year
more
conducive to success. The hike to Burstall Pass was considerably easier
than the
winter version, although keeping our feet dry in the Burstall Flats
area was
not without challenge. Getting to the summit required some steep snow
travel,
but what does one expect on SNOW Peak! For this section we were
relieved to have ice axes. As expected the summit view was stunning is
every direction.
Overall, a
wonderful return to the Burstall Pass area and definitely a trip we would repeat.

Commonwealth Peak looks fantastic from the flats

Steep snow on Snow Peak - ice axes were a saving grace
