Mount Sparrowhawk

July 20, 2002

Mountain height: 3121 m
Elevation gain:    1350 m

Scrambling with Mark.

Mount Sparrowhawk certainly lived up to its reputation as a scenic trip with a spectacular panorama from the top.

Once above treeline, we were treated to outstanding views of Spray Lake, followed by the distinctive form of Read’s Tower. The distinctive summit block of Sparrowhawk was also cause for a few “oohs” and “aahs”. We eventually reached the ridge, where the route gets a little steeper for the final push to the top.

At an impressive elevation of 3121 m, the view featured pretty much everything within a 10 km radius. The descent was uneventful and easy.

A more than worthwhile scramble in a beautiful part of Kananaskis.
