Scrambling with Stuey.

Hot off a recent ascent of Mount Baldy, Stuey suggested another Kane scramble (also in Gillean Daffern’s guidebook), The Fortress. Stuey had completed the route previously and stated I was going to “love it”. He was more than right!

Stuey suggested the Headwall Lakes approach. What a stunning valley with stunning lakes and scenery! We could have just spent the day exploring the lakes. However, The Fortress looked equally inviting.

Aside from a little snow that made some sections slick, we had no problems getting to the summit of this very well-situated peak – well-situated because the summit offers amazing views into the valleys on both sides.

After a thoroughly gratifying summit break, we made the long but also rewarding descent back to the start. Thanks Stuey for dragging me up this fantastic peak!
