Vermilion Peak
August 13, 2002
Mountain height: 2622 m
Elevation gain: 1260 m
Solo scramble.
Well documented
in Alan Kane’s terrific Scrambles book, this little peak offers easy route-finding
(in fact, none!), excellent views throughout, and a wonderful summit panorama. The
day went exactly as Kane describes. His notes about the loose shale and a few
exposed sections near the summit are definitely worth keeping in mind. An
excellent trip!

On the ridge and closing in on the summit

Stanley Peak looks very intimidating from this vantage point

Mount Ball (left) just looks excruciatingly far away!
