Petit Vimy

Petit Vimy is the forested peak at the lower left

Heading south for a short distance before turning left towards Petit (photo by Dave)

Brad leads the way down, directly from the summit (photo by Dave)

I took a slightly different route

Nice combination of foliage and blocky rocks. Is it time for another moment?

Yep! The blocky rocks

With Petit

Mostly foliage

Reunited with Dave and Brad

A short but fun glissade (photo by Dave)

Arras in the background. Thankfully the snow here was hard and easy to walk across (photo by Dave).

Losing a little elevation to see some of the precipitous drop down the east side

Summit pano

Only a small section of bulky Sofa Mountain

Hiking down to a lower point for more views

The
highest summit of Vimy Ridge and Crypt Peak. Though not obvious, the
summit block of Crypt is all bright red argillite - definitely a factor
in rendering it my favourite scramble (photo by Dave).

Pre-viewpoint pano

Same as above. Love that streak of red on Sofa - a future exploration trip.

Dave finds the sweet spot..

Time to go home

It's side-sloping time (photo by Dave)

Dave takes the second position

I take up the rear and get the benefit of Brad and Dave's footsteps in the snow (photo by Dave)

The long stretch of side-sloping now in full view. We are aiming for the point at the far right.

Dave takes the lead

Ice
axes were a necessity here. The angle may not look that steep, but a slip could have had serious consequences (photo by Dave).

I took the lead for the last 20 m! (photo by Dave)

Onto the rock (photo by Dave)

Grizzly diggings (photo by Dave)

About two-thirds of the way across. The angle of the traverse is well-represented here.

I
took the low road here, below the rock band, because I needed a few
more "moments". Dave and Brad the high road, above the band (photo by
Dave).

The band and that intriguing northwest side of Sofa

Brad above the solid dolostone and limestone rock

Here come more moments

Getting close to the end (photo by Dave)

Second last one

And a super sweet one to end

Looking back at the route you can see the snow slope we crossed and the consequences of an unarrested fall (photo by Dave)

Brad and Dave are almost across

Pano behind

Pano ahead

Brad starts down the switchbacking trail to the basin (photo by Dave)

We were all surprised by the prominence of the trail (photo by Dave)

Dave and Vimy Peak

Sweet photo of some pasqueflowers (photo by Dave)

I was more obsessed with the ant

Back on the Vimy Peak trail. The snow was even better for descent.

It's a delightful hike back and easy on the feet near the end of a long day (photo by Dave)

Much lower down. The clouds here were beautiful and didn't unleash my
"scowling, childish, bad attitude" toward cloud cover in general.

Nearing the end of the hiking portion

Back on two wheels and having an e-bike issue that thankfully resolved itself (photo by Dave)

Back across Sofa Creek (photo by Dave)

Even Dave is walking his bike across at this point of the day

Last look over to Petit, Arras, and several others, at the end of a fantastic trip (photo by Dave)
