Scrambling with Mark.
After a bear and her cub wandering the lower slopes of
Mount Whymper kiboshed an ascent with Colleen a year earlier, Mark and I were
ready to make a stab at this beautiful mountain.
The trip was amazing from beginning to end – terrific
hands-on scrambling, fun route-finding, beautiful rock, and stunning views of
the area. We did go off route near the top and ended up on some fairly serious terrain
but were eventually able to squirm our way up to the summit ridge and onto the
summit. The views were fantastic, barring some unwelcome cloudy conditions.
As suggested by Kane, we then hiked over to the
slightly lower west summit and down its south ridge. Again, the route was
replete with terrific scenery.
A wonderful day on a wonderful mountain.
