Mount Wintour Reconnaissance –
June 21, 2009
Roundtrip time: 4 hours
Solo scramble.
One of those days where I simply had to get out to the mountains, regardless of potentially awful weather. The weather promised to be crappy and it was (although surprisingly not as crappy as predicted). The objective of the trip was to check out the descent route for Mountain Wintour, outlined in the Rocky Mountains – South book. Surprisingly, I was able to ascend to within 100 vertical metres of the summit with relative ease. Unfortunately, the dicey weather conditions and lack of time prompted a quick retreat. Though the trip was enjoyable, I was a little disappointed I didn't get to see the summit ridge.
Interesting uplifts of rock on the west side of the peak
The beautifully scenic southeast side of Wintour
Looking south to the unnamed peak I attempted and failed and the grassy hill I ascended after the failure
Eerie weather conditions at the start of the ascent
Same as above
