Rundlehorn climb
May 5, 2018
Climbing with Dan.
Rundlehorn is a very popular 11 pitch, 5.5 sport climb on
the north end of Mount Rundle. I had been thinking about this route for some time
and fortunately Dan was keen to join me – “always take someone better than you”,
has been my technical climbing mantra!
Inadvertently
we scrambled the first 5 pitches. The rock
was good and most of the pitches were climbed ropeless with relative
ease. Once
the roped climbing started, we alternated leads, though later in the
climb, I turned
them over exclusively to Dan. The climbing was enjoyable and
straightforward throughout and views over the Banff area were
fantastic. We rapped down and that’s all she wrote! An excellent day
out.

After scrambling up a few pitches we are near the start of the climbing

Tunnel Mountain (left) and iconic Cascade Mountain

Roped climbing from here to the end. Dan is up there somewhere.

Banff also has some iconic human constructions - The Banff Springs Hotel

Dan rapped this pitch first

We did rap the lower pitches instead of scrambling down them
