Wasootch Peak V

Mountain height: 2350 m
Elevation gain:    825 m

Solo scramble.

Two days after completing a super enjoyable ascent via the north gully and east ridge, I returned to Wasootch Peak to ascend the northwest ridge – a route that I had downclimbed on the 27th, but thought would be way more fun to upclimb.

This trip turned out to be even more enjoyable than expected thanks to all the super interesting rock and scrambling in the drainage that split off from the drainage I had used two days earlier. And, as expected, scrambling UP the northwest ridge instead of DOWN it was heaps of fun.

Unfortunately I did not have a camera (it had decided to take a dip in a stream during my somewhat epic day on Erris) and my phone froze. Being a little lacking in iphone technology knowledge I couldn’t figure out how to reset it and so I wasn’t able to get any photos from about halfway up the ridge to the end of the trip. This was especially disappointing on descent, as the sun lit up the array of colourful rock residing on this side of the mountain.

Besides the disappointing photo situation, an awesome day out!

In the drainage again. Despite appearances, the terrain here is easy and fun to ascend

Looking back at Mount Lorette again!

Some of the fun slab scrambling in the drainage

The summit and the northwest ridge. The ridge looks surprisingly flat from this angle, but it quite steep in places

Traversing over to the ridge

The super fun northwest ridge

Solid rock throughout

The interesting combination of slabby, blocky rock on the left with coral-like rock on the right
