Coyote Hill II

December 24, 2009

Mountain height:         2140 m
Elevation gain:            540 m
Ascent time:                2:40
Descent time:              1:15

Solo snowshoeing.

Mark and I first ascended this minor peak in March of 2005. Given that I couldn’t think of anything else to do and I desperately wanted to get some decent exercise, I set out to repeat the ascent. Mark and I had ascended the south ridge and descended the southeast side of the peak. This time I chose to ascend the southeast side because it gains elevation earlier in the trip.

The ascent was pleasant, though fairly strenuous at times. A few sunny breaks in the weather were cause for some photos, but otherwise I was about 3 or 4 hours too early in the day to experience totally clear skies – too bad, because the views of Mount Armstrong, Baril Peak and other Continental Divide peaks are terrific from the summit.

While I did the entire ascent on foot, snowshoes were ideal for the descent.
