Garriochmill Peak

November 20, 2022

Mountain height: 2695 m
Elevation gain:    1120 m
Ascent time:        4:40
Descent time:      3:10

Scrambling with Raff.

I could not have been more honoured to share Raff’s 1000th summit with him. We would have liked to pick a more ambitious objective for the day, but the weather was forecast to be cloudy and cold. Front range and relatively short was the order of the day and “Garriochmill Peak”, a northern outlier of Mount Glasgow, fit the bill perfectly.

The route had been completed by a party a few days prior and so we were able to leave our snowshoes in the car. Once above treeline, this turned out to be a terrific route, with good views and interesting terrain – much like its lower neighbour, Glasgow North.

Upon reaching the summit, an extended break and celebration was in order. The Jägermeister came out for a well-deserved toast. And as impressive as Raff’s achievement of reaching 1000 mountain summits was, it paled in comparison to his ability to do a headstand while balancing a bottle of Jägermeister on his right foot. Now that’s impressive!!

The descent went without a hitch, and we arrived back at the parking lot just as the Sun was setting.

A big, big, BIG congratulations to Raff on 1000 and I’m sure the mountain community (me especially) is looking forward to joining him on the next 1000!

Glasgow North is the first peak you see

There's a long section of this before you get any views (photo by Raff)

The lengthy east ridge of Mount Glasgow

Raff takes advantage of the broken trail

Dreary conditions but it's a bright, smiley day! (photo by Raff)

What's going on here?

Raff has inadvertently stepped into a hidden hole

A little care is required in a few sections, but nothing traumatizing! (photo by Raff)

Most of the trip is more like this (photo by Raff)

And this (photo by Raff)

The views would be very nice on a clear day (photo by Raff)

And again. I could definitely see myself repeating this trip on a better weather day and throwing in Glasgow North too (photo by Raff)

The ridge is longer than you might think

Raff takes the final few steps to summit #1000!

First order of business is
Jäg!!

Jäg goes down soooo smooth!!! (photo by Raff)

Glasgow,
Jäg, and The Man

Celebratory pose

Celebratory big swig of
Jäg so he can do.......

....this! The headstand is amazing on its own, but balancing the
Jäg on your foot is next level!!

Audition for "Canada's Got Talent"?

Definitely need to come back on a clear day for this view

Fireball and Jägermeister?? Talk about playing with fire!! (photo by Raff)

My audition for "Canada's Got Talent" is a little more sedate (photo by Raff)

Mounts Romulus (centre) and Remus (right of centre) are two great Kane trips to the west

Nihahi Ridge is a loooooong ridge!

Heading back

Still an impressive view, even in the cloudy conditions

Here comes Raff

A generally easy descent (photo by Raff)

With a few harder sections (but still easy)

And down the ridge

Nice Sunset. An appropriate way for Raff to end 1000 and start thinking about 2000. Congratulations, my friend!

The End
