scrambling with Marko, Meggie, Natasha, Orlagh, Sean, Shawn, and Srdjan.
The amazing Natasha Rajcevic booked
one of the Naiset Huts several months earlier and I was delighted to be
invited. Surprisingly, in 22 years of mountain trips in the Canadian Rockies,
this would be my first time to the Assiniboine area. Also along for the ride were six strangers: Marko, Meggie, Orlagh, Sean, Shawn, and Srdjan - all very quickly to become friends.
Although the
weather forecast looked grim earlier in the week, it slowly improved for our
scheduled days. Early indications would be for a miserable first day, improving
second day, and perfect last day – and that’s exactly how it played out. We all
agreed that flying in and hiking out would be preferable to hiking in and flying out or the dreaded hiking both in and
out. That too worked perfectly, though next time I’ll be all over the remaining option: “fly-in,
fly-out”!
